Wow - what a great weekend.
The praise team rocked! Man are we blessed with some talented, hardworking musicians.
Two young people were baptized - PTL!
People liked the tie dye and the tricked out pants - thanks David Wegner (my new tailor).
And tonight I slipped in on "Girlfriends Unlimited" - it was a group of about 150 women getting together to launch some incredible Bible studies and build relationships. What an awesome program. Wanda Miller can BRING IT! And what can I say about my wonderful wife. She has worked so hard with a group of other dedicated ladies to make this an awesome thing. AND IT WAS! Great job baby!
I also got to see my two oldest helping lead the worship for the event... I'm so proud of them both! And babies - you look so cute with that little belly! You are daddy's girl!
Oh yea - the Vols got spanked again - way to go Gators!

Hey you forgot about the Ryder Cup...
Interesting sermon today about the two paths, Martha and Mary. One doing good, one doing best. As I listened to you preach, I wondered, which path is HCC on? One road doing good, working hard but with lots of fanfare. One doing best, quiet and humble at Christ's feet.
The path the Church takes is directly related to the path the people of the church take... Most choose an apathetic path of indifference, mere bench warmers. Feed me, Feed me, they cry! Only when the people of the church choose to invest in Christ over self and make the church the central point of their service to Christ, then and only then will the church be on the path of best. Then and only then will the leaders of the church be able to sit at the feet of Christ to get His best instead of being continually busy doing all the menial things that we the people of the church should be doing.
My question was merely a philosphical one. Can a church, as a whole, become so caught up in what it is doing that it loses sight of why it is doing?
"One more day" is correct in saying that the congregation, as they mature as followers of Christ, should embrace the chance to serve.
The last comment seems to suggest that the congregation should serve more so that the church leaders can receive His best. I think that we all receive His best when we serve with a joyful heart, not looking upon any task as menial.
The term "menial" is only used to describe the volume of work that can easily be performed by lay people but for a lack of support takes up a large part of our leaders time and energy.
Of course any church can be distracted into practices of better over best... but is it a question being posed as a philosphical one or an implication that we are achieving better instead of best as a church? The original comment appeared less philosphical than direct.
I interpreted that the intent of the sermon was to get us to think about which path we, as individuals, are on. Is it wrong to also question which path our church is on? It was not meant as a criticism anymore than Dean's sermon was, but it is something to think about.
I was reflecting on the path of Martha and I realize I've been at Harmony consistently for about 5 or 6 months but have been there almost a year total. I think about how trunk or treat reached out to the community and about how many times I politely declined to help hang drywall in the school....sorry bout that. I wonder how much better my journey had been if I had been Mary instead of Martha. I worked diligently trying to do good while I missed out on God's best.
Not closing this gap has caused me to miss out on some wonderful things. If I had gotten plugged in sooner when my wife first wanted maybe marriage 911 wouldn't have been my first need. I'm just thankful for HCC and our loving Father.
So Deano and everyone at HCC thank you for being there even when I wasn't.
Dean:
You are so right about Girlfriends Unlimited. I am in Awe of what Melody and her team was able to put together deliver!! It was so much better than we could have ever imagined. It will be one of my most touching memories at HCC. I am so anxious for the next Girlfriends unlimited events. What a humbling testimony from Wanda Miller!
